So, I know this guy who has high blood pressure. We're not talking measly pre-hypertension. No, we're talking Stage Three Hypertension.

Stage Three Hypertension: A blood pressure reading of 180/110 or higher places you in the Stage Three Hypertension range. If your blood pressure reading is this high you need to seek medical attention immediately.
This guy easily clears the 180/110 reading, with readings of 196/148 and 188/155. According to this blockquote, he should seek medical attention immediately. Right?

As a matter of fact, the doctor and nurse who took the readings both told him to see his physician as soon as possible. Of course, this is after a couple of severe ass chewings. Nothing like making the B/P rise a bit, eh?

So the guy calls his doc to set up an appointment. He explains the situation, and the readings. The nurse setting up the appointment gives him another ass chewing, and then informs him that he won't be able to see the doc for six days.

Not that he's worried about it, but where's their sense of urgency?

And they wonder why it's high...

I am just glad "this guy" called the Dr.

Tell this "guy", I am glad he called the Dr.

Oh and a gentle reminder, to those around us, it is not selfish to take care of ourselves...we owe it to those who love us.

What AWTM said. And tell this "guy" to lay off the salt and beer and take it easy for those 6 days, ok?

Posted by: caltechgirl at July 11, 2007 12:21 PM

And the Taco Bell - tell this "guy" to lay off the Taco Bell!

too much stress in your life. I say just take it easy for a couple of days until the doctors can see you. relax, do nothing strenuous, eat food with less salt... try not to drink any beer... See what happens.

Tell this guy to not drink any caffeine: tea, coffee and colas. "Never" drink these before having your blood pressure taken. I hope this guy starts feeling more relaxzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Um - I'm thinking "this guy" should start calling other doctors to see if he can get an appointment sooner... I'm just sayin'...

Posted by: Teresa at July 11, 2007 10:18 PM

and try not to take any sinus medicine, ibuprofen, Aleve. And eat green, leafy things. Look up DASH to help naturally bring it down....

I think this guy should drink MORE beer -- after all, beer relaxes you, right? :)

Do like my brother - just go to the hospital.
They used drugs to get his pressure down, then put him on a 'script to keep it there.

He takes two pills a day now and he's fine.

The alternative is that you'll become a vegetable, drooling on yourself, with someone else feeding you baby food and wiping your ass.

So suck it up, be a man, and go get it taken care of.
(I mean that in the nicest way.)

Sheesh I know for a fact going to the doctor raises mine.

Poor dude.

Posted by: Hammer at July 12, 2007 11:56 AM

Agree on the last, am tempted to get in on the betting pool too, though my money is on a stroke before the coronary. Tell the guy to cut the salt, watch the anti-inflamatories and esp. the caffiene, cut alcohol, and otherwise do things to not raise it any higher. Heck, just cutting the salt, caffiene, and such will help. Frankly, amazed the doctor's office did not immediately give that guy this advice and more, and immediately refer to another doctor or an ER as failure to do so is potentially negligent. If this guy has any form of headache, blurred or changed vision, any problem speaking or moving -- they need to get to an ER stat, pref. with someone else driving. Tell that guy to take care!

Mmm... I think that 'this guy' probably should think about going to a 'doc in the box' to see if they can help. If not... the ER will. Six days is too late. And maybe 'this guy' should get his bp checked frequently to see how its doing. If it is not doing well.. as _Jon said, the ER.

Checking in to make sure "this guy" is alive...

knock knock..

Posted by: armywifetoddlermom at July 12, 2007 09:11 PM

F*ck oh Dear... You looked fine today!!! For heaven's sake, calm down already!! Guinness might do the trick...

Otherwise we might have to re-name you TNT - don't know how Harvey will feel about that...

Posted by: Richmond at July 12, 2007 09:53 PM

Joe is now Harvey's wife? Shit, I guess that Hooters Girl outfit was a bigger hit than I realized.

Posted by: zonker at July 15, 2007 10:15 AM

Tell "That 1 Guy" that going to the doctor is a better first step than blowing off appointments on his birthday (no matter how great his friends are) even if it takes 6 days.

So, Bro - is 'your friend' already taking some kinda meds? Cause if not, my hubby is on some, and they work like a charm. The numbers are not as dramatic in his case, but still ... take the meds if they are offered. I'm guessing they're gonna want your friend to change some other stuff, too. Like knockin' off the booze and no ciggies. One step at a time, bro - one step at a time.
