A Question
Ribs.
Great eating, or a total waste of time?
Me... I don't usually care for them, but I have had some good ones.
I was given some the other night, and while folks were raving about them, I couldn't see it. Too much fat, too little meat, too much time invested in a small meal.
I think I've officially moved my position back to "No, Thank You."
Posted by That 1 Guy at January 3, 2007 06:57 PM | TrackBackNo way! Ribs rock. And the best part is after I've gnawed one down I make a woman out of it, just like the Bible. They aren't too bad looking, but they root a lot, and those little curly tails kind of gross me out during the dogstyle sessions.
Posted by: Velociman at January 3, 2007 07:22 PMme too. although i have had some fantastic boneless barbequed ones that were to die for.
this, however, describes perfectly my feelings about buffalo wings.
oh, and just 400 more visits till i win the pub glasses!! JOY!!
Posted by: shoe at January 3, 2007 07:24 PMOverrated. Like you said, can be extremely tasty, but too little payoff for all the work.
If you're firing up the grill, throw a steak or a chicken on there for me.
Posted by: Tommy at January 3, 2007 07:24 PMdaman son eatin ribs should be no chore...for ceratain..
Did I take you to the whole hog...
next time just ribs...
Posted by: armywifetoddlermom at January 3, 2007 07:28 PMI'll let others eat them. I'll be sitting pretty on a nice, tender prime rib.
Posted by: RSM at January 3, 2007 08:32 PMWe have a Texas BBQ out here (yes the owners are from Texas - wonderful people). I've tried the ribs, pulled pork, and chicken bbq... but their hands down best is the beef brisket... fork tender and outstanding. Not to mention - no bones to hassle with.
Posted by: Teresa at January 3, 2007 09:10 PMmmmmm ribs.
If you all don't like 'em, you ain't et the right kind, son.
The Straight White Dude makes a damn fine rib.
Posted by: caltechgirl at January 3, 2007 09:15 PMNow, ribs can be good or bad_it's all in the technique. Baumans Ribs in St. Louis? I'll vouch for.. The rest, I dunno...
Posted by: Richmond at January 3, 2007 09:45 PMBoneless is the way to go. If you must have the bone in, then the slab is usually better when part of the tenderloin is left on. Otherwise, a total waste of time.
Also, beef ribs are better in my opinion, and venison ribs are way too lean to enjoy. Backstraps are awesome, though.
Dang it, now I need to head for the kitchen! Thanks T1G!
Posted by: leggerman at January 3, 2007 09:52 PMI say gimme chicken. I don't eat many ribs. Although I do cook them for the family.
Put them in a bean pot with a jar of bbq sauce and cook them at 200' all day. Fall off the rib tender. And not as much work.
Posted by: Rave at January 3, 2007 10:12 PMDunno how you are planning to get to Heaven if you don't eat ribs.
Posted by: Peter at January 3, 2007 10:19 PMI don't like eating them because they are too messy. Which explains why it's a good thing I'm not a guy or a lesbian.
Posted by: Raging Mom at January 4, 2007 06:24 AMGuess this means you don't eat crab or lobster either? So much work for such a little bit of food. Then again, I do eat ribs. I have found some I love with lots of meat on them... but those that are mostly fat... I can do without those.
Posted by: vw bug at January 4, 2007 06:51 AMT1G,
It's a bit like eating little shrimp. A lotta work with very little satisfaction. I think you gotta be in the right mood for ribs, and not in a hurry.
... you ungrateful cretin!.... have you not tasted fresh country-cut ribs direct from my holy grill?... did you not scarf them down with grunting noises and whinnies of approval?....
.. disliking ribs, indeed.... you just need to visit Tennessee again... your memory is fading...
Posted by: Eric at January 4, 2007 08:06 AMBingley has that very same opinion of shrimp.
major dad's dry rubbed smoked spare ribs, on the other hand, are a thing of inestimable beauty. And bring neighbors flocking from blocks away when the smoke wafts overhead.
Posted by: tree hugging sister at January 4, 2007 08:23 AMMMMM, ribs. For sure, you aint et the right kind! Too much fat? Mercy! Definately not the right kind.
The ones I made Christmas - fresh off the hog a friend of mine butchered, mmmmmmmmm. Smoked for many hours - Scrumptious!
Posted by: oddybobo at January 4, 2007 08:44 AMWhat Oddy said - smoked pork ribs are the best! Especially if they come from Baumann's Fine meats in St. Louis, MO. He uses a dry rub that's to die for! Yummy!
Posted by: Richmond at January 4, 2007 02:16 PMIf you would just try my ribs you'd love them. Seriously - keep an open mind........
but babyback ribs? Yeah, have never had any that I thought were worth the trouble....
Posted by: Tammi at January 5, 2007 12:02 PMRibs Rock. Rib tips are even better.
